Accreditation provides an in-depth and independent review of every aspect of an agency’s organization, management, operations, and administration in relation to 160 standardized industry requirements and best practices. Accreditation requires tremendous agency commitment to the program and continuous coordination with OLEAC for the initial on-site assessment, re-assessment every four years, and annual compliance. The annual cost is dependent upon the agency’s authorized full-time commissioned officers. Certification provides a detailed and independent review of an agency’s policies and practices in relation to 39 standardized industry requirements and best practices. Certification requires significant agency commitment to the program and coordination with OLEAC for the initial on-site assessment, re-assessment every four years, and annual compliance. The annual cost is dependent upon the agency’s authorized full-time commissioned officers. Verification provides an independent review of an agency’s compliance with 11 O.S. 34-107 as well as 22 O.S. 21-22. The annual cost is dependent upon the agency’s authorized full-time commissioned officers but is at no cost where the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) has an OACP membership. OACP strongly encourages all agencies, regardless of size, to start with Verification. Once an agency is more familiar with the requirements and commitments involved in credentialing, they can choose to move toward certification and, ultimately, accreditation.
