This presentation is designed to promote officer health and wellness by bringing awareness to the benefits of yoga for law enforcement. As a first responder, trauma is inevitable; however, the resistance to change is not. If we, as a profession, continue to resist the need for change in how we train and respond to mental health issues, we will continue to have a problem with suicide.
Mindfulness training, specifically yoga, has been scientifically proven to be an effective method for managing and mitigating the effects of stress. Yoga has been shown to increase resilience, compassion, focus, objectivity, flexibility, and strength. Additionally, mindfulness promotes better decision making and improves performance at work and at home.
