VALOR Characteristics of Weapon Concealment and Surviving Assaults

  • Virtual United States (map)

This presentation is designed to increase officer safety by teaching students to recognize indicators that the person they are making contact with is potentially armed and preparing to launch an assault. Officers are provided a broad overview of potential tactics and techniques to utilize when confronting a potentially armed and dangerous person. When employed, these tactics and techniques can help mitigate an officer’s exposure to danger. Finally, the importance of proper articulation—written and verbal—and utilizing the facts and circumstances of the encounter is also stressed.
